“Encaustic” painting was first practiced centuries ago by the Greeks and Romans, and means “burned in,” implying the use of heat. Traditionally the process involved heating and mixing of dry pigments and beeswax, and it results in a rich, lustrous surface.
Tony Foster has been hidden away at a secret spot painting for his upcoming show “Secret Sites - Watercolour Diaries by Tony Foster.” The show opens September 4th and we are all very excited about it! Checkout some of these photographs of Tony working on the new work and his secret spot!

The Idaho Mountain Express has a great article about Laura McPhee’s current show here at the gallery, “Guardians of Solitude”.
McPhee captures wildfire devastation and rejuvenation through a large-format Deardorf viewfinder camera, which allows her to create large photographs with impeccable detail and rich color.
“It’s more about how we perceive things than the fire itself,” McPhee said. “I think these images are very Japanese in their look.”
Last summer, McPhee returned to the region to photograph the aftermath of several Sawtooth National Forest wildfires for her book “Guardians of Solitude, “a sequel to “River of No Return.”
